Burnsville Senior Center Weekly Update                             (Dec 31, 2020)   #37

Good morning, this is Michele Starkey, Coordinator of the Burnsville Senior Center and this call is to wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
2020 certainly has been a year to remember.  Actually, it may also be the year we would like to forget.
Coronavirus, a global pandemic, COVID-19, hand sanitizer, wash your hands, wear your mask, flattening the curve, social distancing, staying 6 feet apart and a lot more plexiglas literally all around us.  We’ve seen high unemployment, we’ve defined essential workers, we were quarantined, we worked from home but did a lot of shopping online.  We were introduced to online learning, virtual graduations, party parades and a lot of things canceled and/or closed.  We have witnessed social unrest all around us and felt the many losses. We are getting good at curbside pickup, we saw panic buying, and a shortage of – you guessed it – toilet paper.  Zoom is now common in many households, and our new normal is a lot less social and terribly isolating.

What came of all this chaos?  I think we are finding an appreciation of our differences and our similarities.  I think we have been reminded that everything can change at the drop of a hat and that we are much more flexible and resilient than we knew.  We are more capable and more caring than we ever realized.  After all – we are still here now aren’t we.

And we are here as well at the Burnsville Senior Center, answering the phones, Monday thru Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm and happy to take your calls.  You can reach us at 952-707-4120.  We will stay answering those phones but not reopen the Senior Center until Monday, January 11.

So, as we say good bye to 2020 and look forward to new opportunities in 2021 I bid you a Happy New Year and may all your hopes and dreams come true.

Stay safe, stay well and stay connected.

See you next year…
