November 5 Update
Burnsville Senior Center Weekly Update (Nov. 5, 2020) #29

Good morning, this is Michele Starkey and I am the Coordinator of the Burnsville Senior Center and this is my Thursday morning update call in an email format.

Well, another milestone is behind us for this very interesting year of 2020.  And, another set of batteries I needed to replace with all the channel flipping I’ve done this week.  I cannot believe it was in the 70s and I stayed glued to the television.  But now that that’s all behind me, I am going to get out there and enjoy a little bit of this glorious weather…after all, this year in particular, we desire it!

Remember we have a volunteer here answering the phone, Monday thru Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm.  If there is anything you need from us here at the Burnsville Senior Center we are a phone call away.  You can reach us at 952-707-4120.

The Monthly Dining Club (MDC) cards are here. They are $25 again this year & good each month for 138 different businesses and restaurants south of the river.

Heads up – it’s Open Enrollment for those of you with Medicare. Perhaps you are new to Medicare or wondering what your options are or maybe looking to change your current supplement – now is the time to do so.  In association with the MN Board on Aging and MAAA, you can contact the MN Senior Linkage Line at 1-800-333-2433 to get a free appointment to speak with a trained volunteer. These are not brokers or agents but people trained to assist you with your health insurance choices.

Remember it’s flu season – so get your flu shot.  And free COVID-19 tests are available by calling 612-223-8838 for an appt.

Great interest in the Be A Santa to A Senior program. This program is designed specifically for seniors who are isolated during the holidays. Seniors who are isolated or lonely or maybe had a life-changing event can easily be nominated, just call us here at the senior center. We will ask about gift suggestions at that time to personalize their goodies with the intention of just spreading a little holiday cheer for the seniors in our community in need. We spread that cheer to >325 seniors!

The Fare For All Thanksgiving Holiday Pack will be available on Wed, Nov. 18 from 2 – 5 pm on the Pleasant Avenue side of the building, lower level.  The One91 Community Pantry will be available on Nov. 17 from 3 – 4:30 pm and again that is on the West or Pleasant side of the building.

With Thanksgiving approaching, we are all trying figure out if we should spend, that precious time with family and loved ones.  Our family has decided it’s just a little too risky this year. Having said that out loud, I have to admit, it was always a little risky with some of my family members... anyway!

Remember to enjoy your week and wear your mask - we want you to stay safe, stay well and stay connected.
