October 1 Phone Update
Burnsville Senior Center Weekly  Update                        (Oct. 1, 2020)   #24

Good morning, Michele Starkey, the Coordinator of the Burnsville Senior Center.  If you are getting this email message, it is because you have a email associated with the Burnsville Senior Center and this is my weekly update call in an email format.

Boy oh boy.  I realized last week what you have all been busy doing…cleaning!  You kept us very busy at the shredding event.  Thank goodness we had great weather and you had plenty of ‘stuff’ to get rid of.

Flu season is around the corner and we have a flu shot clinic scheduled here at the Burnsville Senior Center on Friday, October 9 from 930 – 1130am with MN Visiting Nurses Association. Please bring your insurance information and wear loose-sleeved clothing.  Please call us to register since we are seeing an increased interest in flu shots this year and we need make sure they have enough vaccine available.

The MDC – Monthly Dining Club cards are finally here!  They are $25 again this year and good each month for about 166 different businesses south of the river.

We continue to get calls regarding the availability of COVID-19 testing.   IF you would like to get a free COVID-19 test, please call 612-223-8838 for an appt.  They are scheduling appointments on Wednesdays, 3-7pm, Saturdays from 9am to 1pm and Sundays from noon to 4 pm.
Everyone is welcome whether you are someone with or without symptoms, no ID is required, and no insurance required but if you have insurance bring your card. This is available at 2530 Horizon Drive right here in Burnsville, through the Dakota Child & Family Clinic.

The Be A Santa to A Senior program is a program we do every holiday season.  This program is specifically for seniors who are isolated during the holidays, so if you know of a senior, perhaps a friend or a neighbor who might benefit from a little holiday cheer – call us and nominate them for this program.  We will also ask about gift suggestions at that time to personalize their goodies.

The One91 Community Pantry is a no cost food alternative held here at Diamondhead Education Center the first & third Tuesday of every month from 3 – 430pm.  Upcoming Pantry dates are: October 6 & 20 from 3 – 430pm and the produce dates are October 8 & 22 from3 – 430pm. Right here at Diamondhead, outside door #11 on the east side on the lower level.

Just a reminder - you must pre-register for everything happening at the Burnsville Senior Center.  We are here to help and answering the phones M – F from 9am – 430pm.  You can reach us at   952-707-4120.

The leaves have certainly turned out there and you can actually smell Fall in the air.  Grab a jacket if you step out to take it all in and remember to wear your mask - we want you to stay safe, stay well and stay connected.                Goodbye
