Burnsville Senior Center
Weekly Email Update
Sept. 9, 2021
Good morning this is Michele Starkey, Coordinator of the Burnsville Senior Center and this is my Thursday morning update.
School has started, the buses are running and so are most of the One91 staff. This is what we live for – the beginning of the school year. We continue to collect school supplies for the many students in our district who are in need. And we are awaiting the Fall edition of the Chatter newsletter and preparing for a couple of things we have missed and are looking forward to.
The next shredding event is Thursday, September 16 from 1 – 3 pm. Home Instead Senior Care and the Veteran’s Recycling truck will be here to dispose of your stuff. $5 for 1 – 3 bags, $10 for 4 – 8 bags, and $50 for 9 or more bags of ‘stuff’. Again, 1- 3 pm in the east parking lot here at DEC.
As we listen for further updates on the 3rd COVID booster, we are planning a flu shot clinic for Friday, October 1, from 9 – 11:30 am. Stop in, show your insurance card, roll up your sleeve and they will be happy to make your day. Ecumen Seasons of Apple Valley and Centennial House will be here with treats for those participating!
And we are planning out annual Holiday Bake Sale and Boutique for Wednesday, December 1. We anticipate baked goods in time for the holidays and gift ideas from the vendors anxious to greet you. We anticipate making our famous sloppy Joes and serving them up with chips and the fixin's. We are SO looking forward to this event!
Signing in remains important as does the 6 feet of social distancing we are still observing as we face the Delta variant. Thanks again for your cooperation and support.
If you need a COVID test, you can call 612-223-8838 & make an appointment at Dakota Child & Family Clinic right here in Burnsville. Or call the CVS on Nicollet (952-736-8130) & make an appointment to drive up & take a COVID test. Tests are now readily available.
To make a vaccination appointment please go to https://mn.gov/portal/ where you will find the vaccine connector. We will update this information accordingly. And be sure to check with your doctor & insurance provider for additional details & options.
The One91 Community Pantry September dates are Tuesday, Sept. 21, from 2 – 4 and then fresh produce will be available Tuesday, Sept. 14 & 28 from 2 – 4 pm or until the food is gone. The POPUP Pantry remains at Metcalf Middle School every Tues. from 3 – 6 or until food is gone.
Fire Muster is celebrating 40 years this weekend. It looks like the weather will cooperate if you are up to taking in any of the festivities. It is a wonderful way to kick off the school year as a community and there is something for everyone.
Enjoy what looks to be a great weekend – stay safe, stay well and stay connected.
Thank you & Goodbye
